As the majority of the Otava Group’s carbon footprint originates from the value chain, we develop our business in close cooperation collaboration with our partners. We monitor EU regulatory developments and are preparing to apply, for example, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation.

The Otava Group’s carbon footprint

The Otava Group calculates its greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) standard. The calculations include both emissions from our own operations (Scope 1 and 2) and emissions from the value chain (Scope 3).

Most of the Otava Group’s greenhouse gas emissions originate from the value chain. We have prepared a climate change transition plan in which we have assessed both our emissions calculations and the effectiveness of implemented measures.

Otava Groups carbon footprint decreased by 27 % compared to the 2022 baseline.

The Otava Group has set 2022 as the baseline year for its emissions calculations, meaning that emissions in subsequent years are compared against this reference year. The reported Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions are calculated using the location-based method in accordance with the VSME standard.  We apply the VSME standard in sustainability reporting across Group companies. Market-based Scope 2 emissions are not included in the official emissions figures but are presented separately as supplementary information.
